I have always been touched by the tragic story of the Romanovs and fascinated by the history of the Czars. The Romanov family reigned from 1613 to 1917.
Anastasia was only 17 when she was executed/ murdered with her parents, three older sisters and little brother, in the basement of Ipatiev House by the Bolshevik revolutionaries under Yakov Yurovsky. They were shot and bayonetted to death.
After the revolution of 1917 which deposed him, Czar Nicholas appealed for asylum from his English cousin who later became King George V, but he was refused, supposedly for political reasons. This sealed the family's fate. To Communists the Romanov family were symbols of a decadent and oppressive autocratic regime and as such they were held prisoners in Siberia for more than a year before the decision was made to brutally murder them. it is believed Lenin ordered the execution.
After the fall of Communism the remains of five family members and four loyal retainers were finally found in the nearby Koptyaki forest and buried with ceremony in St. Petersburg in 1998. The two remaining children were found in 2007. All were identified by Dna thus putting to rest the stories that any may have escaped, especially Anastasia.
They were all declared holy martyrs and saints by the Russian Orthodox church. The Church of All Saints was erected on the former site of Ipatiev House..

(278/365) Autumn colours starting to show in the trees at Newmarket's recently revamped Pitch & Putt course. I don't play golf but am going to try & do the 1km perimeter walk 2 or 3 times a week. It's a lovely walk with a stream & varied habitats. My son works 3 days a week in the restaurant at the James O'Keeffe institute which is adjacent to the course so when I drop him off I can do some power walking. That's the theory anyway lol my trouble is I keep stopping to take photos! HTMT!
Created in Wombo Dream.

Much hand painting.
Thanks for your visit, faves, and kind comments.
Was putting my new RF100-500 through its paces last week paired up with the R5.
I found a small group of Swallows constantly hunting and returning to feed their young. Just a few days later they had fledged, nest vacated and the beginning of their long migration south was underway. It felt rather lonely when I returned, no presence of their aerial acrobatics and calls. But good to see them fledge! Godspeed little ones.
While downtown putting out food for feral cats, I started to put some water out and saw this face looking at me. It was a pretty small kitten who had hunkered in a small depression next to the building. I picked it up and it was very friendly and purred a lot. I don't think it was any of the area cats. I think someone saw the cats in the area and dumped it. I took it home and gave it a place in our 2nd bathroom with bed, food and water. It was very loving and wanted to be held. We gave it a small toy mouse and it played and played with it. We just couldn't have another cat, so today I loaded it up (with toy) and took it to the local shelter and gave them a nice donation for taking it in, I sure hope it finds a good home, someone will be getting a nice kitty.
A contrast between light, dark and misty. The background was muted just enough to keep the yellow tree on the edge of the lake as the main feature. The manicured grass is part of the 9 hole pitch and putt golf course at the Inn on the Lake hotel.
Yes I know there's a builders van in the middle of the photo.......!

Young anolie changing the coloration and design to blend into the local surroundings. Five minutes ago he was green. He'll probably lay here basking in the warm sunlight or , maybe, something tasty will come along.
The IMRL really did a great job of putting cars in the ditch for the 5 years of its existence. We ran the hell out of trains and didn't do much maintenance because Washington Corp was just draining the IMRL. Well, the IC&E had a couple of mishaps along the way too. Here they did a number, putting a train on the ground over the top of the Iowa Northern diamond at Plymouth Jct. Now the IANR is back in; we had to detour the trains to Nora Springs and up while we waited to get the diamond back in. Here, the northbound bound for Austin turns the corner onto the Owatonna Sub.

Today the smoke from the forest fires triggered a "hazard" alert, the highest level. When I got up at 4 am it was at 365, but it's dropped to 300 by this afternoon, still hazardous, but less so. I have an n95 mask, ONE, which I wore for the first time today. All of my other masks are triple layer t-shirt material masks. I took it off in the car, and promptly put it back on because I could smell the smoke. I have an air purifier which has been running non-stop in the house, I rigged another one by putting a hepa air conditioner filter on the back of a box fan, using stretchy cords to secure it to the fan. With the two fans, I have breathable air on one side of the house. But what about the birdies? They are on their own. The only birds I've seen today are woodpeckers, like this Northern Flicker. I haven't seen the little ones. Maybe the leaves of the trees give them extra oxygen. The sky is yellow and there isn't even a pale disk of sunlight.

SCARBOROUGH BEACH HUTS…
In seaside resorts and many other tourist places a fresh lick of paint is a must in Spring…
They are so cheerful and attractive, here in more detail.
I love those rainbow-coloured beach-huts.
The patterns, the textures, everything...
Even in lesser weather they make me smile!
Have a great day and thank you for your visit, M, (*_*)

Totally not sure now! I am making my original idea but a few of the comments yesterday have given me another idea! I might have to make 2! Not finished yet though.

Eastern Gray Squirrel ponders over the fact that I don't have feeders up anymore. Now it has to forage for natural foods, like maple seeds, or what I scatter on the ground. I am considering putting up a suet feeder...maybe. I do want to see the chickadees and the bushtits.
